School Holiday Activity – Cyanotype Prints

This winter school holidays, FSN invited families to meet up at Lismore Botanical Gardens for a cyanotype printing activity.  Also known as sun printing, this fun activity for all ages brings together nature, creativity and a little bit of scientific magic, to produce beautiful indigo-coloured artwork to take home.

For the first part of the activity, the group took a nature walk in the winter sunshine through the gardens, collecting fallen leaves, flowers and other natural treasures for their cyanotype designs. The children then arranged their finds on special light-sensitive paper, exposed it to sunlight, and submerged in water to reveal striking, blue-toned prints of their nature arrangements. Our participants loved this fun morning of outdoor exploration and creative discovery. To find out what adventure’s we’re planning for the next school holidays, keep an eye on our What’s On calendar.
