Connecting Families for Thriving Communities
A collective sense of belonging, participation and trust is vital for children, youth, and families, especially those facing vulnerability. Our community strengthening activities build community connections and enhance social cohesion, inclusion and wellbeing by linking families with their broader local network.
Supportive relationships, safe play areas, and quality learning experiences are crucial for healthy child development. Family Support Network is dedicated to ensuring all children have access to these protective factors by creating opportunities for meaningful involvement in engaging community events.
Our annual events, which grow each year, include a community fun day at Heritage Park in Lismore. Families and children enjoy free miniature train rides, face painting and children’s entertainment. We also host an annual celebration of National Families Week which provides an opportunity for families to build social connections in a safe and supportive environment.
Family Support Network participates in many local events such as the Lismore City Council NAIDOC Day, which celebrates the culture, history and achievements of the Widjabul Wia-bal people of the Bundjalung Nation. This significant event for our team is a meaningful way to honour Country and connect with local Aboriginal communities.
We are also delighted to be involved in one of the region’s most loved community events, the Lismore Lantern Parade. Family Support Network hosts creative lantern making workshops and walks alongside families in the parade for this community-wide celebration.
We welcome all families to join us and participate in our free and inclusive activities for connecting with community.
